Commonly Asked Above Ground Pool Installation Questions
- Could I bury my above ground pool?
- Though this is possible be aware that you’ll probably void all warranty by doing so. Above ground pools are meant to be above ground. The safest way to go about doing this is by first filling up your pool and waiting a few days to determine if there are any pool leaks. If not then begin by spraying a moisture protection spray all over the outside of the pool. Then begin back filling the dirt against the pool wall carefully. Make sure you keep at least a foot of the foot above the ground. It is very likely that the weight of the dirt could cause the pool to collapse. Therefore, do not ever leave a buried pool empty.
- Do I need a pool cove? What are they?
- The purpose of a pool cove is to prevent the bottom of your above ground pool from ballooning. You could use hand made coves but it is usually better (and safer) to go with commercially produced ones. Some people consider pools coves to be optional but there really is no reason to not get one. Pool coves have a lot of benefits! They can help your pool survive for years by preventing erosion and creating a sealed barrier between the wall and liner. Well-made coves will never corrode or even lose shape.
- I’ve just installed my above ground pool. How high should I fill it with water?
- Is it possible to place my above ground pool over concrete?
- Placing your above ground pool on concrete is perfectly fine as long as your concrete, or any pool foundation for that matter, is level. Concrete is a really nice option to have under your pool because you will be able to have a completely smooth bottom. If you will be placing your pool on concrete you should use wedge shaped Styrofoam (pool coves) or a heavy duty outdoor carpet or pool pad under the pool.
- I’m worried about rust. Should I get steel or aluminum walls?
- Unfortunately both styles are fairly equally capable of getting rust. Your pool’s ability to prevent rust is due to its level of resistance to corrosion. If an aluminum wall rusts it is actually called oxidation.
- Can I install an above ground pool by myself?
- You should be able to an above ground pool by yourself if you are the type of person who can meticulously follow instructions. Even if you do choose to install your pool by yourself it is wise to have a helper. Installing a pool is fairly simple but can be quite cumbersome. When you are installing your pool constantly refer back to the directions and call a professional when in doubt.
